Tracey Towers elevator renovation with a budget of $10 million
Residents of Tracey Towers, a housing complex in Bedford Park, say their request for help with building problems has been answered with a $10 million check. The 50-year-old building has been plagued by problems including frequent elevator outages.
“I came home last week and all the elevators were down,” said Hill, president of the Tracey Towers Tenant Association.
“Last week when I came home, all the elevators in the complex were broken and out of service,” said Jean Hill, president of the Tracey Towers Tenant Association, who has lived in the towers for nearly 50 years.
Tracey Towers is a two-story high-rise complex, with one 41 stories and the other 38 stories. The broken elevators make it difficult for seniors and people with disabilities to get around.

The building is home to low- and middle-income families because of its affordable rents.
“Elevators are not just a convenience and a means of transportation for people,” Zaccaro said. “They are also very important for the safety of residents, especially the elderly.”
Zaccaro, along with City Councilman Eric Dinowitz and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, presented Hill, the president of the tenants’ organization, with a $10 million check to completely renovate the complex’s elevators.
